Choose the right size

Choose the right probe depending on the snake’s length. Using the probing sexing kit is a relatively simple process.Have someone help you to old down the snake. It is wise to have someone experienced with snakes to help you handle it if the snake is dangerous or large to reduce complications.

Clean the probe

Begin by sanitizing with alcohol or boiling water then the probe before inserting it into your snake’s cloacal.

Insert the sexing probe

Opening on either the right or left side, aiming towards the tip of the tail. Do not exert too much pressure when probing your snake to avoid hurting the reptile. Once you have determined the gender of your snake, gently and slowly pull the probe out.

Identify the sexing

If you are probing a female, you will enter one of her scent glands, and the probe will only go in the equivalent depth of 1-3 pieces of abdominal flake.

If you are probing a male, you will enter one of his hemipenes, and the probe will be able to insert the equivalent of 9-15 pieces of abdominal flake.
