Leash Walks for Life
While we know cats are safer when kept indoors, many cats suffer from boredom and inactivity. Cats are highly intelligent pets that need mental and physical stimulation, and leash walks are an excellent way to meet those needs. Whether spending time in a yard or on a porch, going for a neighborhood walk, or taking your cat further from home on an adventure, we believe every cat can benefit from leash walks! Confident and energetic cats will appreciate the opportunity to explore new environments and burn some energy. Cautious cats can slowly build confidence from gradual exposure to new sights and sounds. When you consider training and going outside as a form of consistent positive interaction, it’s easy to see the value in spending 15-minutes a day enriching your cat’s life with walks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can all cats learn to walk on a leash?
Cats who respond with curiosity to changes in their environment will be good candidates for leash walking. More fearful cats can benefit from gradual exposure to new sights and sounds. When introduced to new experiences, every cat should know how to return to their safe place. Confidence will build faster when cats know it’s their choice to explore and to return home if they get scared.
How snug should the harness be?
The harness should be a snug fit “like a glove.” The Cat School harness will be too big for young kittens. For early socialization and training, introduce kittens to an adjustable H-style harness. Switch to the Cat School harness when your kitten is old enough.
Is the harness escape proof?
Cats are known for maneuvering in and out of tight spots, and a harness is no exception for a cat who feels vulnerable or frightened while exploring. There is no such thing as an escape-proof harness, and it’s essential to layer multiple safety methods to keep your cat safe. Follow our guidebook to become a better handler. In addition to the cat school harness, always have your cat wear a collar with identification and a tracking device.
