Cat Shows Up at 7:00 AM for Class Every Day, and Students Discover Why He Keeps Coming

Growing up with a pet often brings about a common dream for many: the wish to bring that beloved animal to school. Pets have a way of making life brighter, and their playful curiosity can bring joy to almost any situation. One school discovered just how much a furry friend could add to their environment when they welcomed a very special cat into their lives.

Meet Simba, a friendly 15-year-old orange cat who has a deep love for human companionship. His affection for people led him to wander into a nearby high school one morning, leaving his cozy home to explore new surroundings. This high school, Westbrook High, is just a short distance from the house where Simba lives with his owner.

It was 7:00 am, the usual start time for the school, when Simba made his first appearance. Tina Soucy, who was new to the teaching staff at the time, noticed him by the door and decided to let him in. Little did she know, this small act would mark the beginning of a wonderful journey.

The very next day, and for many days after, Simba showed up at the same time, ready to start the school day. Now, a decade later, Simba is a regular at Westbrook High, and the students have grown to adore him.

“Simba seems to brighten everyone’s day,” said a school administrator.

Marc Gousse, the Superintendent, shared his thoughts on the situation: “For most people, it’s human nature. Animals are very…warm, they’re calming. They bring a sense of peace.”

Indeed, the presence of this cheerful cat has been noticed by many staff members, who have observed students beaming with smiles whenever Simba is around. He’s become an integral part of the school, and it’s hard to imagine the place without him now.

Simba is free to roam the school, but the staff makes sure to keep him away from students who might be allergic or areas that could be dangerous for him. His owner is fully aware of Simba’s daily visits and is delighted that her cat can enjoy such an exciting adventure.

With over 800 students at Westbrook High, Simba has more friends than he could have ever hoped for. It’s heartwarming to see that the school staff has embraced this unconventional student, allowing him to join in on the school’s activities.

A horrific case of animal cruelty and domestic violence unfolded last year in Fargo, North Dakota. The details are disturbing and tragic. The abuser was sentenced to prison, but we must ensure he never terrorizes another person or animal again.

Simba’s story serves as a reminder that there’s always room for change within the school system. Many students could benefit from direct interactions with nature and animals, as these experiences often spark a growing curiosity about the world.
