Unlike the stereotype, dogs and cats can form lasting bonds, often keeping one another company on good days and bad. One such cat and dog duo, Mas and Barbos, only had each other after their owner tragically passed away. The owner’s family originally took them in but decided they no longer wanted them and kicked them out. The pair was spotted by passersby, who were eager to step in and help.
Their bond was beautiful. But even though they had love for one another, their eyes told a tale of sadness and longing. The loyal couple stayed by their former home as if they were waiting for their owner to return for them. They were often seen snuggling on the sidewalk. They cleaned one another and kept each other warm.
Being homeless took a particular toll on the cat, Mas, who was infested with fleas. Their survival was dependent on human intervention, and thankfully, kind people stepped in and took the pair to the local shelter.
Understanding their deep bond, shelter workers put Mas and Barbos in the same kennel, where they could continue to comfort one another. Soon, with healthy meals and veterinary care, both Mas and Barbos made a quick recovery. They were still unsure of people, but the shelter workers were confident that would all change.
With consistent care, the cat and dog learned to trust again. They were surrounded by love and couldn’t wait to find a permanent home together. Both Mas and Barbos are on their way to finding a family. They just need a bit more time to acclimate to life indoors.

We are so relieved these precious angels were rescued. Thank you to the good people who brought them to the shelter. We have no doubt these two will find a perfect life where they will both be cherished.
