It’s no secret that our main location is old and falling apart in many places. This location, originally built to serve as the city’s municipal shelter, boasts a host of issues, but has also been a haven for so many pets since we moved here in 2012. What originally was not built for lifesaving, became the answer to APA!’s big questions — “Where are we going to go? How are we going to continue to save more lives?” And luckily, we’ve had friends along the way who have helped us with the upkeep of this shelter.
Since moving into this space, we’ve been able to make some improvements to the facility. We’re limited with the repairs that we can do and have been fortunate to receive some amazing support from generous businesses over the years with the most recent in kind project coming from our fur-riends over at Fur Sure Roofing!
The Austin-based company’s founder, Tyler Hefel, first connected with APA! when he came to make a donation of supplies during the winter storm earlier this year. As luck would have it, he was greeted by our Facilities Manager, Ryan Cook, and the conversation of roof work for our clinic began.
A plan was hatched and Tyler was able to climb up on the roof to assess what was needed. The roof, likely the original from the early 70s, clearly needed some attention. Fur Sure Roofing donated a full roof repair which included adding insulation, making the every day inside the clinic so much more comfortable for both our people and pets.
“At Fur Sure Roofing, we believe in delivering high-quality work and giving back to our community. Partnering with Austin Pets Alive! lets us make a difference for our furry friends,” Tyler shared with us when asked about the businesses motivation to give back. “With only being open for just over a year, we’re thrilled to be able to donate our time and materials. This project is a dream come true for us, and we couldn’t be happier to help Austin Pets Alive! continue their great work.”
Our organization depends on the generosity of our community, so it is certainly a dream come true for us, too! Having this project completed before the summer heat really kicked in is such a treat!
