He Said Cat Should Be Put Down, But Woman Knew Better

Abandoned cats, especially those who have grown used to the warmth and safety of an indoor environment, often find themselves completely overwhelmed and helpless when they are suddenly left to survive on their own. This was precisely the situation faced by one unfortunate homeless cat, whose future seemed bleak until a fortunate twist of fate intervened. The poor feline was found sitting by the side of the road in a dreadful state. It was as though he was silently pleading for help yet too frightened to make the first move toward anyone passing by.

Josie, a compassionate woman with a lifelong love for cats, was the first to notice him. She couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him behind, so she made up her mind to help him. The cat’s fur was heavily matted, and his eyes were so covered that Josie initially thought he might be blind. His entire appearance suggested he was suffering from multiple health issues, so Josie knew he needed to see a vet as soon as possible.

Josie tried several times to catch the scared cat, but he was elusive. Eventually, she found him hiding under some bushes and saw her chance. To her surprise, the cat did not resist or cry out. It was almost as if he sensed that help had arrived. She lovingly named him Lucian. Josie took him home, offered him food, and waited for the vet clinic to open.

Despite everything he had endured, Lucian remained a sweet and affectionate cat, his purring filling the room with warmth. His charming personality quickly won Josie over. She knew then that she would adopt him officially once he returned from the vet. But when she took him in for a checkup, one of the vets delivered a heartbreaking suggestion — euthanasia. Due to Lucian’s poor condition, the vet believed it might be the most humane option. Josie and her husband refused to accept this fate for Lucian and decided to seek further help.

Determined not to give up on him, they reached out to an animal rescue organization. At the rescue, Lucian underwent a complete transformation. He was shaved to remove his matted fur, bathed, dewormed, and given other necessary treatments. Though extremely underweight, Lucian began to look like a brand new cat after his makeover.

Old San Juan’s Beloved Cats Are Under Threat

The National Park Service has a plan to potentially euthanize up to 170 feral cats under the guise of nuisance control. Demand a policy that protects these cats!

Lucian was then hospitalized to continue his recovery, but Josie and her husband visited him daily, ensuring he felt loved and supported. After two and a half months, Josie received the call she had been hoping for — Lucian was finally healthy and strong enough to come home.

Overjoyed, Josie brought Lucian back, where he quickly settled into his new life. He left the harsh memories of his outdoor struggles behind and embraced the warmth and safety of his new home. As his strength returned, Lucian became more playful and full of life, bringing endless joy to Josie and her family. His gratitude was evident in every purr and cuddle, reminding them daily of the love they had given him.

Without Josie’s unwavering determination, Lucian might never have survived. But thanks to her, he has a second chance at life, and together, they are now living their happiest days.
